Carpenter Bee Control

Carpenter bees are known for their ability to drill holes through wood and nest in them, hence the name “Carpenter” bees. They do not construct hives and they don’t produce honey. Regularly, they can often be mistaken for bumblebees. Of the four main species of bees in North America, the bumblebee and carpenter bee are of the same size and they do share the same characteristics. Therefore, it can be quite difficult to differentiate the two. The main difference is that bumblebees do not cause much damage to homes compared to carpenter bees. If given enough time, carpenter bees can and will destroy your home drilling multiple holes for potential nesting grounds for their next of kin. Prime locations for holes can be located in unpainted, exposed wood on sidings, window trims, decks, under roofs and even in outdoor furniture.

How to Get Rid of Carpenter Bees

Not to worry though, carpenter bees rarely sting. The females are the only ones who are equipped with stingers but they are too busy producing eggs to worry about incoming threats, especially a threat as large as a human. Females are often found deep within the holes for safer haven. If these holes are not discovered and managed, carpenter bees will come back during peak season and continue to drill and extend the same hole deep within your home. There a various signs to consider that will help you stay alert of a carpenter bee infestation. Holes along the outside of your home are the obvious and the other is the frass created from the drilling of carpenter bees.

Carpenter Bees Extermination

Before any treatment or application of any insecticide, be sure to wait until it gets late in the afternoon (preferably during nightfall). Generally, bees are not as active during the night and will be asleep in their bedchambers. It is suggested to directly apply the insecticide to the entryway hole using bee concentrated pesticides. Dust insecticides, such as Cynoff WP or Demon WP (any dust pesticide containing cypermethrin), will get the job done. Never over treat the area, this will prevent bees from entering and leaving their nests. A light application is all that is needed for an effective kill. This will allow bees to enter and exit freely and while doing so will acquire dust on their bodies. When the targeted carpenter bee cleans itself, it will they consume the pesticide simultaneously leading to an inevitable death.

Carpenter Bees Treatment

For further control measures for carpenter bees, it is highly recommended to acquire a liquid insecticide containing cypermethrin and apply a follow up spray in and around the infested areas. Treatment is best when applied before any nesting activity begins, therefore it is ideal to apply carpenter bee treatments during the early spring. If the infestation is current and it is overwhelming, do not hesitate to call our staff of professional pest control experts. We will gladly assist you and help you get rid of your carpenter bee problem.

A.   There are several different products for Dust Mite control. Look into Steri-fab, which is a spray that does not have a residual but is great for an initial treatment or one time treatment. Also, Bedlam Bed Bug Spray has dust mites on the product label that is a great product as well and has a short residual of about 1 week to 2 weeks.

Q. What product to get for DrywoodTermite and will you shipped to Hong Kong
My mother has an apartment (on the 9th floor) in Hong Kong and she found termites. I believe they are drywood termites and she is looking for a spray to prevent the termites from developing again. I wonder if you can recommend a strong product and easy to apply - just spraying at the spot will be great. I also wonder if you shipped directly to Hong Kong. Thanks for your help.
A.   Premise Foam seems like the product you are looking for! However, we are unable to ship the product to Hong Kong due to strict regulations on international shipping.
