How to control bees

Bees are valuable insects, even though they are usually associated with pests because of their stinging nature. They can become a terrifying problem when they disturb outdoor activities. Frequently, people have categorized all flying-stinging insects as "bees." Did you know there are over 20,000 species of bees on our planet? Bees can be found every continent besides Antartica. As long as pollen and nectar is around, you'll have a bee or two nearby. Even though Bees play an important role in terms of pollination and our ecosystem, sometimes they can be quite perstering and will become a worrisome threat if their colony size gets overwhelming.

How to Get Rid of Bees

One of the important elements of bee control is to initially destroy the source, which is the nest. Aerosol bee sprays can be used to effectively take down bees around the nest. However, applying small amounts of dust/powder pesticides directly into the nest will provide better control. In some cases, the attempt alone to destroy a nest can potentially become a health risk. Did you know around 100 people die every year from bee stings? Majority die due to allergic reaction to the venom of the sting. Close to 1 percent of the nation’s population is allergic to bee venom. Those who are allergic should always carry epinephrine injection kits at all times, especially during the summer. Be careful! However, if a nest is discovered in the vicinity of humans posing a stinging threat, especially those of social species, it must be taken down immediately. A nests of bumble bees, carpenter bees, yellow jackets, wasps and mud daubers should always be approached with caution. Heavy clothing or a bee suit should be when attempting to take down a nest. The best time of year to control bees is during the month of June which is when colonies are still in the beginning stage of construction. In addition, the best time to control bees is during the night, when they are less active.

Bee Control Products

  • Aerosol Bee Spray
Obtain a bee killer projectile spray (ensuring a 15-20 feet gap when applying). This will allow plenty of room to make a quick getaway if needed.
  • Bee Dust Pesticides
Dust insecticide is a fast acting solution that can be injected in the nest for immediate treatment.

Bee Nest Removal

Bee nest removal or the process of getting rid of bees is fairly simple. At the entrance of the bee nest, apply aerosol bee spray into the opening during a late evening (refer to label directions). If you do not see any activity the next day, the extermination was successful. If activity is still noticeable, then repeated day-to-day treatment should be applied until they are all dead. If there is direct nest access, a dust pesticide is recommended. If possible, an injection of the material into the nest should suffice in treatment and total control. It may be necessary to drill into the structure to facilitate the injection. Use extreme caution when performing bee control from a ladder. Contact us if assistance is needed.

A.   There are several different products for Dust Mite control. Look into Steri-fab, which is a spray that does not have a residual but is great for an initial treatment or one time treatment. Also, Bedlam Bed Bug Spray has dust mites on the product label that is a great product as well and has a short residual of about 1 week to 2 weeks.

Q. What product to get for DrywoodTermite and will you shipped to Hong Kong
My mother has an apartment (on the 9th floor) in Hong Kong and she found termites. I believe they are drywood termites and she is looking for a spray to prevent the termites from developing again. I wonder if you can recommend a strong product and easy to apply - just spraying at the spot will be great. I also wonder if you shipped directly to Hong Kong. Thanks for your help.
A.   Premise Foam seems like the product you are looking for! However, we are unable to ship the product to Hong Kong due to strict regulations on international shipping.
